New year, new role

New year, new role

For the few years before I joined Unity, I'd been on a management path, including roles like Technical Lead, CTO and Technical Director.

When I joined Unity as a Senior/Staff Engineer I took what some saw as a step 'backwards' because I left a management role. Of course an Individual Contributor role can actually often be more impactful to a company and users than a management role will. It's just a different career path.

Industry layoffs and Unity's own "company reset" have caused a lot of movement and uncertainty around me; this climate also caused me look at my options outside of Unity and to think about what the next 20 years of my career might look like.

So after much reflection and strategic thinking about what the path from here looks like, I've decided to move back to management!

I went through a round of interviews for a new job that came up to manage a team of graphics engineers at Unity and I'm pleased to say I was offered the job and accepted.

Today is the first day of my new role as Manager, Graphics Engineering, so it's very early days, but I'm optimistic and excited to get started!
